2019 was a phenomenal year for horror movies. The horror genre is still alive and well.  There were at least 30 films out there for serious consideration. After hours and hours of intense film viewing, I have listed Mind Wind Films top ten list with links to view or buy the film when available. 
These  films are all outstanding and listed in no particular order.

2)
Ready Or Not
Starring: Samara Weaving and Adam Brody
Director: Matt bettinelli-Olpin

​This film is about a new bride's spouse and the party his family throws for her. The party game the spouse's family plans is definitely not what she was expecting!
This is the rare horror film where humor doesn't hurt the film's intensity or lower its quality. The actors give strong performances. Smart dialogue and unique actions build deep characters that the audience can sympathize with, even though this is a group of greedy and severely disturbed individuals. The ending is very, very good. Probably the most satisfying ending in this years top 10 list.

The Hole In The Ground
Starring: Seana Kerslake and James Qinn Markey
Director: Lee Cronin

Sarah's young son disappears in the woods behind their rural home. He returns, but he doesn't seem the same and his behavior becomes increasingly disturbing. 
This film endures a spooky sustained tension throughout its running time. It feels claustrophobic and the kid is creepy as hell. Excellent looking film with high production values that rewards its audience with an intelligent script.

The Golem
Starring: Hani Furstenberg and Ishai Golan
Directors: Doron Paz and Yoav Paz

A woman must save her small community from invaders during the outbreak of a deadly plague. She turns to Jewish mysticism. However, the evil she conjures up is worse than the invaders and the deadly plague. The lead actor "Seana" plays her role with perfect conviction. Chilling terror is the feeling of this period piece. The entire cast plays their parts very well. This film looks stunning and the script is moody and darkly driven.

The Wind
Starring: Caitlin Gerard and Ashley Zukerman
Director: Emma Tammi

The Wind is set in the late 1800's. Elizabeth and Isaac head out west with dreams of beginning their life in the land of opportunity. However, a life of loneliness and desperation quickly begins to eat away at Elizabeth. She perceives an evil emanating from the earth in the lonely prairie they are living in.
This film moves along with a rustic sadness and slow brooding madness. Elizabeth is confronted by an evil dark wolf among many other dangers and challenges. Surround sound is executed very well with music, ambient and spooky sounds spread throughout the sound field. This film pulls you in with brutal honesty and leaves you disoriented at times. The Wind is a beautiful film with moody sparse landscapes that appear endless. Elizabeth's husband is gone for long periods of time for work, which propels her loneliness and feelings of disconnect. This film is very rewarding for horror fans. Especially, for those who like the old west and its harsh elements.  Prepare for an uncompromising and brutal ending! Highly recommended.

Depraved
Starring: David Call, Joshua Leonard and Alex Breaux
Director: Larry Fessenden

Frankenstein's monster gets an update in this provocative and disturbing film from one of the best current horror directors.
Great pacing is one of the best aspects of this successful and chilling tale. Along with great pacing comes incredibly adept character development and focused performances and scenes. Depraved begins with a fantastic opening scene that lets the film grab you and hang on until the ending credits. Don't miss this one! Great for those who like monsters or a great horror film.

It Chapter Two
Starring: James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain and Bill Hader
Director: Andy Muschietti

It's been 27 years and the clown is back in this epic length successful continuation of the "It" story. 
​This sequel opens with an incredible set of events that occur in the first 10 minutes of this satisfying film. Excellent production values and presentation all around in this tense and suspenseful spooky story. The use of sound in this movie to scare and create tension are top notch and hard to beat. You will see fly baby bat affects and an awesome fortune cookie and many other original psychedelic ideas here! This is a freaking epic movie that never seems to drag during its running time of almost three hours. Watch this movie if you like epics and great horror films!

Harpoon
Starring: Munro Chambers, Emily Tyra and Christopher Gray
Director: Robert Grant

Dark secrets, deception and outright lies create the events that take place on the water in this intense  and unpredictable film.  The actors are incredibly convincing. The sharp script is one of the best this year and it will keep you guessing. The actions take place in a small claustrophobic space making the tension thick as muck. Jealousy, paranoia and a ton of emotional baggage run this show. Deception is everywhere here and the ending is another triumph.  Don't miss it!

Girl on the Third Floor
Starring: Phil "CM Punk" Brooks, Trieste Kelly Dunn and Sarah Brooks
Director: Travis Stevens

Don Koch wants to renovate his new home for his baby on the way and repair his damaged relationship with his wife, but his new house will not let this happen! Great haunted house story. 
Psychological tension and scares work well. Fresh ideas on the haunted house theme attach themselves to this film's script and scenes. Don likes partying and women. He struggles to clean up his life and do the right thing. The house mirrors what he creates in his own life. The house is alive and has ghosts too!
This film is a bit rocky and uneven at first with some stilted dialogue. However, quality picks up quickly as the house accelerates its sexual mind games and violent attacks on unsuspecting Don, who thinks he is going crazy as he has weak defenses against the evil hallucinations and ghosts  the house throws at him.

Bliss
Starring: Dora Madison, Tru Collins and Jeremy Gardner
Director: Joe Begos

A gifted painter known for her dark and macabre artwork becomes stuck in a rut. She will do absolutely anything to get back on track and complete her next masterpiece! Unable to finish her newest commissioned work, she makes an attempt to reignite her creative juices by letting loose. She starts taking drugs and tearing through rowdy house parties and bars in search of creativity. Dezzy notices changes in herself. On the positive side she is painting again, but there are plenty of negative things that start surfacing too. Her performance is riveting as her life unravels and she becomes wrapped in drugs and immoral cravings. Psychedelic hallucinations and chaos soon take the entire stage. Drugs are bliss? A couple of scenes come off as bit too much on the music video side. However, overall this is a very good, volatile and brave film that sticks to its vision.

2020 

​That hideous abomination. She is banging at my screen door! “Let me in.” “Let me in.” she screamed with a desolate lonely howl revealing her crusty yellow teeth clacking together audibly. Her skin yellowing as the virus takes control of her body. “Let mama in” she whines in a voice so high my ears are ringing with pain as white noise fills my damaged ears. Droplets of blood shower my shoulder in irregular patterns on my sweat stained shirt. This old house I am holding up in feels like an endless crater and I am falling to my death, but at the same time I feel claustrophobic and stuck here like a moth trapped firmly in a cocoon. I feel like a prisoner on death row strapped into an electric chair waiting for somebody to flip the switch. My inescapable death. 

Had to delay the reveal one month, because I had to watch 32 films for this and it is taking a bit longer than I expected. I probably could have put together a quick list, but I want the presentation to be top notch with thoughtful insight, photos and working links. Thanks for your patience. It was an incredible year for horror movies!

An alien race with technology that dwarfed that of earth, sent dummy aircraft to the airspace of the most dominant and powerful civilizations on earth, including the USA, Germany, China, Japan, England etc... All these countries panicked by the speed and force that appeared to be lunging toward them on satellite radar with the promise of destruction and certain death to their country!

These countries disregarded cool heads and responded with knee-jerk reactions. One country would attack their neighbors and any other armies they suspected might be part of the attacks without warning. These armies attacked one another in blindness, while the countries with nuclear bonds pressed their little red buttons effectively wiping out humanity in the course of a day.

After the decimation, aliens used their advanced technology to purify the air and invade the earth with no battles, no war, no deaths and, most importantly, no resistance.

They set up a shrine for future generations to give thanks to the ancient human race for peacefully endowing their planet to them in a shameless and selfless manner. Inspiring the young to live their life emulating this ancient civilization from ancient earth.

​A man opens the door. She walks in. A dirty looking man points toward the bathroom door. She walks into the bathroom and shuts the door. She braces her hands on the sink and opens her mouth. White pouches filled with powder fall out into the sink. She sticks her fingers into her mouth and fishes out a couple more pouches. She then proceeds to stick her finger into her throat and       Vomits a few more packets and bile pour out. She rinses them off and opens the door. The man comes in and she shows him the packets in the sink. He pulls out a wad of cash and extends his hand toward her. She grabs the cash, but he smiles and holds on to the cash firmly. She pulls a second time and he releases the his grip. She shoves it into her pocket and leaves through the door.
